Steph and I worked this event in La Costa, CA, in the summer of 2002.  The fan base for tennis is slightly different than, say, your average NFL team.  These people were probably having fun, but you couldn't tell from looking at them.  Everything had to be quiet, then a little polite applause, maybe a little giggle between sets, it was reserved.                                                                                                                                                                                                  We did have fun though.  Venus Williams slaughtered the competition.  The winner was never in doubt, but we did get to see Capriati, Davenport, and Kournikova.  Serena sat this tourney out, so we were robbed of an exciting finish.
