Our friends Rudy and Bonnie Calderon (along with my pal Tony Nowak) were cool enough to invite us to some of the pre-all star game festivities at Comiskey Park. We saw the 'Futures' game- basically a minor league allstar competition, and the 'Celebrities and Legends' Softball game. Not a very serious exhibition, but it was entertaining. It was a beautiful Chicago night.
The highlight, by far, was seeing former Cub heroes Ryne Sandberg and Ernie Banks back in uniform. Even if it was just goof-off softball, it was smart to include some true legends alongside the 15-minutes-is-almost-up Hollywood types. You know, without the Black Sox playing there, Comiskey Park is really not that bad. You've got to hand it to Jerry for spending the money to pretty-up the place.
